[USA] PhD Studentship Parallel Mesh Generation at University of British Columbia

The Advanced Numerical Simulation Laboratory at the University of British Columbia develops unstructured mesh generation algorithms and numerical methods for accurate, efficient solution of PDE`s on unstructured meshes (with an emphasis on problems in aerodynamics).

We currently have a need to extend our mesh generation code to run in massively parallel environments (thousands of processors), to provide meshing and adaptation support for applications both within and outside our group.

We will almost certainly need to go beyond existing research in parallel unstructured meshing to develop algorithms that scale sufficiently well.
This position is a PhD research studentship, with an anticipated start date of January 2007. The successful applicant should have a background in CFD and strong C++ programming skills. Experience with unstructured mesh generation will be helpful but it is not essential. Students whose background is in a field other than mechanical engineering can easily be accomodated through UBC`s interdisciplinary Institute for Applied Mathematics.
