[UK] PhD Studentship in Engine Aircraft Noise – University of Southampton
Rolls-Royce/EPSRC PhD Studentship
Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR)-Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics Group
Fully funded EPSRC/Rolls-Royce studentship is available to conduct research at ISVR on jet noise from aircraft engines.
ISVR is one of the foremost institutions specialising in research, teaching and consultancy in all areas of sound and vibration. The available project is a collaborative effort between ISVR and Engineering Sciences at Southampton and Rolls-Royce, Derby. The aim of the project is to develop a novel numerical scheme to explore the physics of sound generation from turbulent flows in general and high-speed jets in particular. The project will involve a combination of analytical and numerical work using supercomputers.
The studentship is for 3 years from October 2007 to October 2010 and is jointly funded by the EPSRC and Rolls-Royce plc.
The studentship would provide support at standard EPSRC rates (currently £12,300 p.a.), UK/EU tuition fees and a further£5000 p.a. supplement from Rolls-Royce plc. UK, EU and international students with a good first degree and a strong background in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, or numerical computing are invited to apply with a CV and the names and addresses of three referees to:
